Welcome Jed Hawkes to the SEA-LECT Designs Team!

SEA-LECT Designs would like to extend our warmest welcome to Jed Hawkes, who has joined our team as the new Customer Service Rep.

As a transplant from the East Coast, Jed originally came to the region to attend college (at Evergreen State), but like many stayed for the whitewater.  He got his start in paddlesports by accident when at thirteen his mom gave him the ultimatum; “you’re a teenager now, time to get a summer job.” Dejected, and not wanting to bag groceries at the local Shaws or wash dishes down the street at the Chowder House, he sauntered into the local sea kayaking shop (North Shore Kayak Outdoor Center) and spoke to the owner. Looking at the gangly 13-year-old boy in front of him, with no kayak experience, he must have seen something special because after a short conversation, and despite his lack of qualifications, he was told to show up for training the following weekend -  it’s been all downhill since then.

Sea kayaking has transitioned into surf kayaking, and surf into whitewater … and from there it’s gone to all the various crafts, rafts, kayaks, and canoes.  Paddlesports have been a defining and driving force since that first day he sat in a Perception Carolina 14.5 … “Thanks for the motivation mom!”

After five years leading out of a sea kayaking, he moved to the Southeast at age twenty to “push rubber”. Guiding rafts ever since; three summers were spent on the French Broad, Nolichucky, and New rivers (with USA Raft), and the last four in the PNW, primarily on the White Salmon (with All Adventures) and Skykomish (with Alpine Adventures).

Today, when he’s not in the SEA-LECT Designs office, he can still be found guiding part-time on the ‘Sky’, or he may just be paddling an epic stretch of whitewater with his friends. Or, when there’s no water in the rivers (which is rare in the Evergreen State), he dusts off the sea kayak and floats the sound and lakes of Washington State.

Paddlesports remain Jed’s passion and driving force, and he continues to expand his knowledge of the Industry. We’re lucky to have Jed join the team, and he’s anxious to work with all the dealers and manufacturers served by SEA-LECT Designs.

Go ahead, harass him just a little bit … send him an e-mail at jed@sealectdesigns.com and welcome him to the team!
